The Heart of Consciousness is the source and essence of everything. That deepest level of being then pulsates out into all layers and levels of existence, including our own individual body and mind. This segment of Entering the Heart of Shiva focuses on one of the ways that non-dual Śākta-Śaiva Tantra describes Consciousness: as Light.

This course explores the Light of Consciousness – its nature, its function, and how it is explained in the many exquisite texts of the non-dual Tantric lineage, including Abhinavagupta’s Tantrāloka and Tantrasāra, the Śiva Sūtras, and Kshemaraja’s Pratyabhijñāhṛdayam.

While Classical Yoga and Sāṃkhya provide foundational notions that begin to explain reality and consciousness, Śākta-Śaiva Tantra expands on those teachings, such as with the principles of reality (tattvas), the role that knowledge and the refinement of knowledge play on the spiritual path (sādhanā), and their profound non-dual perspective on identity and Consciousness itself.

Throughout the course, we consider the relationship between the great Light of Consciousness and our relative individual awareness and experience of reality, and how the nondual perspective of these teachings supports the vision of the householder path.

EHS – Light of the Heart studies include Abhinavagupta’s Argument of the Light, the Primordial Forms of the Goddess Potencies and the process of opening our awareness into progressively more expanded states of Consciousness that result in a life lived directly in and from the Heart of Consciousness.
